HELLO ALL!

Social Activities

This is the area of the website dedicated to the “and Recreation” side of the club…Here you will find all of our social events, including the weekly TGIF schedule, monthly (at least we try) group dinners, and any other “social” special community or area event that club members organize and offer to fellow RSRC family members! How many times have you gone to a restaurant, show or event and thought, “this would be great to share with a bunch of friends!” Well next time you get that urge give me a call at 853-0580 or email me at vp-social2@renoskiandrec.com and we will see what we can do to get your idea on what proves to be a very busy calendar. As I have said many times in the past, if it's happening in this area, you can bet someone in this club is doing it…

See ya soon!

I want to thank everyone who helped make New Year’s Eve such a huge success. Timi Fisher helped me with phone calls, centerpieces and arrived early to the event to help set up and help check guests in. Debbie & Kevin Brett found the wonderful DJ, Felipe for us and also arrived early (they had no choice, we drove! Ha ha) to help set up and check guests in. Dianne Hilliard, Todd Betterton and Joel Marlowe also helped check in at the door. Huge thanks also to John Baum, Cathy Hackett, Christine Diaz, Dave Stevenson and Nancy Slatin for sending me so many incredible pictures from the evening. I know there are many more, so if I’ve forgotten anyone, please forgive me and know how deeply and sincerely you are all thanked! Above all, thanks to everyone who attended and shared such an important night with friends and family. Thank you all!

I also want to thank Karen Oliver and Marsha Burke for not only suggesting locations for TGIF’s in January, but arranging them for me. Karen arranged La Fuente in Sparks which turned out fabulous, and Marsha arranged Abel’s in Verdi which as of the time I’m writing this hasn’t happened yet, but I know it will also be wonderful.

I invite any of you to give suggestions, and even to arrange a TGIF or lead a group dinner at one of your favorite locations. As always, I will hold your hand through the process!

"TGIF" (Thank God It's Fun!)   Thank goodness it’s Friday! We all love Friday’s and what better time to get together with friends when the work week is done and we have time to relax!

Our TGIF’s are weekly social gatherings held at different locations each week. People start trickling in at between 6 and 7 p.m. We usually are heading home by 9 or 10. Some people like to have dinner as a group and those groups form spontaneously on Friday night.

We never know who or how many will attend. This makes it somewhat of a nightmare for the bar or restaurant we are visiting, because our numbers vary from 20 or so people up to 60 or more. If you know of a place that has a large enough bar to take us, and would like to have a TGIF there, please contact the Social Director, Leslie at 853-0580.

TGIF Schedule:

JANUARY 2012 TGIF’s

January 6 : 2500 East at Grand Sierra Resort. The first Friday of each month is “First Friday Festival” so let’s go check it out!

January 13: La Fuente, 790 Baring Blvd., Sparks. If you haven’t tried it before, you’re in for a nice treat. They have great food and are offering us $4 margaritas and buy one get one free appetizer fom 5-7 pm.

January 20: Woody’s, 960 S. McCarran, Sparks. They have a large bar area and a separate dining area. Good food and drinks.

January 27: Abels, 2905 Hwy 40 West, Verdi. Take exit 5 from westbound I-80 and you’ll see it on your left next to Lakeside Trucking. Able also owns La Posada Real, so we we know how good his food is and how friendly he is!

FEBRUARY 2012 TGIF’s

February 3: Buffalo Wild Wings, Summit Sierra Mall. They are doing away with their happy hour. Instead, their motto is “Every day is game day.” There will be “game day” specials all day long.

Feb 10: Reno Big Horns @ Reno Events Center, 400 N. Center St., downtown Reno. When you buy your tickets in advance, tell them you are with Reno Ski Club and you will get the group price of $10 and we will all be seated together! They play the affiliate team for the LA Lakers. There is food and drink available at the Events Center. Tip Off is 7:00. Complete the order form on the flyer and mail it to: Attn: Zach O’Brien, 9393 Gateway Dr. Suite BH, Reno, NV 89511 or call Zach at 853-8235

Feb 17: Claim Jumper, So. Virginia St. Happy hour goes until 7:00 and they offer $3, $4 & $5 food and drink specials in the bar!

Feb 24: River Room, 17 S. Virginia. River Room also has great happy hour specials on food and drinks and they are extending their happy hour until 6:30 for the Ski Club.

Mar 2: Spiros, Sparks Blvd & Prater Way. Happy hour goes till 8:00 – half off drinks and selected appetizers are $5.
