Sunnyside 2009
We had wonderful weather for the Sunnyside activities and lunch on Saturday, September 26th. With officially 103 club members and their guests at Sunnyside, almost a third of the club took part in this year’s event.
With sunny skies and record breaking temperatures for the date, all of the optional morning activities went off as planned. The ideal weather made the third time a charm for Ron Chohamin’s kayaking group. They were able to launch at Sunnyside and paddle south on the lake and return before lunch. The other first time activity this year was Ken Rose’s group that hiked to the top of Eagle Rock and the scenic overlook of Lake Tahoe there. Betty Comprix’s walking group started at Sunnyside and walked along the paved path past some of the west shore homes and then along the lake shore and back. Claire Keenan’s cruiser bike group rode from Sunnyside along the west shore bike path beside the lake to Homewood and back. Joel Marlowe’s mountain bike group rode on a single track trail in the Dollar Hill area on the north shore. Vin Keenan’s cruiser bike group did a ride along the west shore and then along the Truckee River to the light at the entrance to Squaw Valley and back. Dan Lutterman’s motorcycle group did a cruise starting at the Raley’s at the Mt. Rose Highway all the way along the east lake shore through South Lake Tahoe and up the west shore to Sunnyside.
It was Peter Olsten’s birthday, so he got an extra large piece of Hula Pie with a birthday candle and a chorus of happy birthday sung by the whole group. Ron Percivalle, our Official Club Weatherman, did such a fabulous job delivering on the weather for our day at Sunnyside that we decided he needed another weather test. We gave him a T-Shirt to remind him of his snow forecast challenge for this ski season. (see the photos)
On a serious note, I want to thank Ron Percivalle for publishing the specific forecast for the Sunnyside lunch and all the morning activities. In addition, I really want to thank all the group activity leaders who helped make the event so much fun for everyone: Ron Chohamin, Betty Comprix, Claire Keenan, Dan Lutterman, Joel Marlowe, and Ken Rose. Thanks also to everyone who shared their photos with us.
