ANNOUNCING THE

RENO SKI AND RECREATION CLUB BULLETIN BOARD

The Reno Ski and Recreation Club is providing an on-line forum for active members.  We have named the forum the Reno Ski and Recreation Club Bulletin Board.  Effective June 1, 2009, members may access the Bulletin Board by logging on to the Members Only page of the club’s website and clicking on the link provided.  The Bulletin Board is a segment of a much larger regional message board system within which we have our own private location and site.  Accordingly, we will require registration to use the Bulletin Board.  If you do not register, you will be able to read messages, but you will not be able to send messages nor access member information.

After clicking on the link to the Bulletin Board you will see a menu at the top of the page.  Select the “Register” option and complete the information requested.  After you have completed the information properly and agreed to the terms, you will see a box with text telling you your account has been created.  In addition, it asks you to note that your email address is yet to be verified.  This step is only necessary when the Bulletin Board will be used for mass email messages.  At this time, we do not plan to use this capacity so you can disregard the email validation process.

The Board of Directors has adopted a policy which requires all Bulletin Board users to identify themselves by first and last name.  This could be done by entering your first and last name in the box for “Username”, however, this data field does not allow spaces and doesn’t capitalize.  A better way to do this is to complete the registration process, log in entering your new username (anything under the rules for username) and password.  Then, from the home page menu select “Profile”.  At the top of the “Profile” page, select “Modify Profile”.  In this window you will see, under “Account Information”, a data field headed “Display Name”.  Type your name here and the list of members will then list your first and last name properly as will your messages.  This is important, because members who do not identify themselves will not be allowed to use the Bulletin Board.  Messages sent without a member’s first and last name will be deleted immediately.

Now that you’re registered, you should go to the home page and select the “Help” option from the menu.  The help menu provides a complete tutorial on how to use the Bulletin Board.  You will notice that the tutorial mentions some features you will not see.  For example, the Calendar feature has been turned off as it is a duplicate of the calendar the club provides in its Monthly Newsletter.  If you still have questions or problems, you can contact Joel Marlowe.  He has been designated as Manager of the Bulletin Board and will do his best to help you get started.
