Socially Speaking

HELLO ALL!

This is the area of the website dedicated to the “and Recreation” side of the club…Here you will find all of our social events, including the weekly TGIF schedule, monthly (at least we try) group dinners, and any other “social” special community or area event that club members organize and offer to fellow RSRC family members! How many times have you gone to a restaurant, show or event and thought, “this would be great to share with a bunch of friends!” Well next time you get that urge give me a call at 827-5354 or email me at ahottoddie@hotmail.com and we will see what we can do to get your idea on what proves to be a very busy calendar. As I have said many times in the past, if it happening in this area, you can bet someone in this club is doing it…

See ya soon!

"TGIF" (Thank God It's Fun!)   Thank goodness it’s Friday! We all love Friday’s and what better time to get together with friends when the work week is done and we have time to relax!

Our TGIF’s are weekly social gatherings held at different locations each week. People start trickling in at between 6 and 7 p.m. We usually are heading home by 9 or 10. Some people like to have dinner as a group and those groups form spontaneously on Friday night.

We never know who or how many will attend. This makes it somewhat of a nightmare for the bar or restaurant we are visiting, because our numbers vary from 20 or so people up to 60 or more. If you know of a place that has a large enough bar to take us, and would like to have a TGIF there, please contact the new Social Director.

TGIF Schedule:

September 2008 TGIF Schedule

Sept 26: Scruples, 91 W Plumb Ln, Reno – Just west of Virginia, Scruples Bar and Grill welcomes us back to their outdoor patio. We will have reserved tables and our own server, so if you are not on the Cromberg Camping Trip, come join us!

October 2008 TGIF Schedule

Oct 3: Rail City, 2121 Victorian Ave, Sparks – Back to an old favorite in the north part of town…Great beer, bar food (You have to try the fries!), and plenty of space…What more could you ask for!

Oct 10: Grand Sierra “2500 East”, 2500 E 2nd, Reno– The large “waterfall” bar at the south end of the casino. Come early for a free Nigata Sake tasting at the Reserve bar or plan on having dinner at the buffet…It is only $7.77 if you sign up for the casino card.

Oct 17: Austin’s, 7671 S Virginia, Reno – Back to the south side of town…Happy hour ends at 6PM, so if you want discounted snacks or drinks, come a little early…Also note that the bar becomes a “smoking” bar after 6PM, so take over the table areas if you want to avoid smoking next to you…

Oct 24: Peppermill Terrace Bar, 2707 S Virginia, Reno – Beverage manager Kathy promises they will be ready for us this time, and we will have plenty of space at the bar…I will verify with her before we go if they are planning any drink specials for us…Also, last time we were there, some went across the way to a fine meal at Biscotti…

Oct 31: Halloween Party, Tom and Cheryl Dewey’s House, 4365 Lloyd Way, Reno – The Dewey’s open their “digs” for this year’s “fright fest”…Bring your own drinks, and dress in your costume if you dare…See details else ware in the newsletter, or call Tom and Cheryl at 824-0243

General Meeting
Second Tuesday of each month.

You are invited to join us for our General Meetings, held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm (6:00 mixer) at Amelia's Restaurant & Flightline Bar, 655 South Rock Blvd., Reno.  It’s informal with announcements, guest speakers, and socializing. If you're a new member, new to the area, or just curious, it's one of the best ways to see who we are, and for us to meet you.

Many arrive early to enjoy socializing during the mixer, and/or have dinner before the meeting, which lasts about one hour. The bar faces huge windows overlooking the openness over the airport, and into the view facing Mt. Rose. It's one of Reno's best kept secrets!

FYI: In July, General Meeting and BBQ will be at Wildcreek Golf course. Look for the BBQ pavilion on the west side of the golf course.
